Trump Welcomes Relatives of Shot Guard Soldiers to the Presidential Residence

Former President Donald Trump announced on the weekend that he has asked the family of a Guard member tragically killed last week to visit the executive mansion.

He mentioned that he contacted her parents and they were “heartbroken”.

Background on the Tragic Shooting

US army specialist Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was killed in a violent incident on last Wednesday in DC.

Her comrade, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, remains hospitalized in grave state.

Memorials across West Virginia have occurred in their memory.

White House Invitation

The president explained he’s discussed a meeting at the presidential residence for the loved ones of both soldiers of the state Guard.

“I told them: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a tough thing, arrive at the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to Sarah,” the president told journalists. “And likewise with Andrew, no matter the outcome.”

Community Reaction

Attendees assembled over the past few days at Webster County high school in the state to honor Sarah.

Both the soldiers had been working with the West Virginia National Guard as part of Trump’s government program to assist public safety in Washington DC.

Remembering Sarah Beckstrom

“She was the individual that instructors desired. She behaved with calm resilience, a warm expression and a positive energy that lifted people around her,” the principal, the leader of Beckstrom’s previous school, stated to the Associated Press. “She was caring, compassionate and always ready to help others.”

Memorial arrangements for Sarah are yet to be finalized.

Judicial Actions and Policy Changes

Authorities have accused a twenty-nine-year-old suspect with a charge of murder and two counts of assault with intent to kill while armed.

The incident led the government to suspend asylum processing and temporarily stop granting visas to possessors of Afghan passports.

Condition of Wolfe

Wolfe, a native of Martinsburg, enlisted in early 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of his local high school, per the AP.

He continues to receive treatment and is “battling to survive”, West Virginia governor Patrick Morrisey said on television.

Attorney general Pam Bondi told the program that she aimed to speak to Wolfe’s family.

Impact of Beckstrom

Beckstrom, from her hometown, completed her education from her high school in 2023 and began her service not long after, working as a military police officer with distinction, per the state guard.

“She had a lot of goodness and she certainly had courage,” he informed the audience at the memorial. “Though her life lasted far too short, she has created a legacy that’s going to endure.”
