Following the box office performance of the blockbuster Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle, which grossed more than $600 million worldwide, the latest Chainsaw Man film has reached beyond the $100M milestone internationally, attaining a global total of $108 million during its debut. This movie outperformed the thriller Black Phone 2 ($12.9 million) in its sophomore frame in cinemas, as well as the film Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere with Jeremy Allen White ($9 million).

Promotional Efforts Drive Box Office Dominance

Along with its affiliate Crunchyroll have skillfully used fan engagement to propel their leadership at the anime box office. This film's marketing campaign began at the Anime Expo in LA in summer with a MAPPA presentation, exclusive activations, and Pochita photo ops, and later included a significant involvement at the New York Comic Con including exclusive clips, fan raffles, and more MAPPA sessions. Additionally, there was an private showing for enthusiasts for moviegoers and influencers alike after the last day of the event.

Future Prospects

This year marks a big year for Japanese animation, and for Sony, which has another animated movie releasing in 2025 in Jujutsu Kaisen: Execution in November.
