Patrick Bamford Signs With the Blades After Leading Derogatory Chants Targeting Coach Wilder
The striker has signed with the Championship side just seven months following leading disrespectful songs targeting their manager, Wilder.
This experienced striker, a free agent after departing from Leeds, has put pen to paper on a deal with the Championship club in difficulty until January. His lengthy time with Leeds finished through agreement in August.
One of the player's last memorable actions while at Leeds involved leading offensive chants regarding Chris Wilder amid Leeds' promotion party this spring. Now, the one-cap England international is set to play under Wilder as Sheffield United's boss aims to pull the team he loves out of the relegation zone.
Past Conflict Involving Bamford and the Manager
Both men had a past prior to Leeds earned promotion back to the Premier League the previous campaign while Sheffield United were defeated in the playoff final to Sunderland. The manager called Bamford as “a muppet” back when the situation was different in 2018-19 and Sheffield United won automatic promotion whereas Leeds United fell short in the playoffs.
Reconciliation & Moving Forward
All appears has been forgiven and forgotten with United, the league's lowest scorers, in desperate need of a boost in attack while Bamford looking to resurrect his playing days.
The Wilder chant went viral this spring. An apologetic Patrick along with Leeds boss, Daniel Farke, called the Sheffield United manager the following day.
Wilder commented at the time: “Had a conversation with Pat yesterday and I have no issue at all with it. I’m not sure regarding the language from a fellow pro! But I valued and respected him giving me a call.
“We spent 20 minutes and similarly I talked with Daniel too and we had a longer discussion together and he is a super guy, a top guy. Back in my playing days we would dish it out and take it and that is an integral part of football across all levels, even on Sunday league. I've got absolutely no issue. I'm fine with it and I said that to Patrick.”
Recent Career Struggles
Bamford featured in 18 games with Leeds United last season however the former Forest, Chelsea and Boro player has faced difficulties with fitness issues in recent years.
