Manchester United Set to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Signing for United

The forward, with six months remaining on her contract, is known as a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. Her arrival is viewed as a major coup for the WSL side.

Departure from Bayern was expected after she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top forwards. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the move are now finalised.

Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Attack

The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a major uplift to United’s forward line. Schüller has been highly reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Old Trafford

Securing the German international comes at a time when the club seem to be gathering momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen additional activity:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure commented: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the American league, added: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
