It: Welcome to Derry Releases Episode Two Sooner Than Planned on the Streaming Platform

Fans are eagerly awaiting for the horror series It: Welcome to Derry, which is garnering praise and drawing from elements from the broader King universe. Just one day after launch, the network declared that the next chapter will debut sooner than expected, scheduled ideally for October 31st.

Premiere Shift Particulars

Beginning on the last day of October at 12 a.m. Pacific Time, the next part of the Derry prequel will launch on HBO Max, prior to its linear broadcast. Subsequent episodes of the eight-episode season will continue to air on Sunday nights on both HBO and its streaming arm, building toward the final episode on Sunday, December 14.

Series Overview

Taking place within the Derry mythology, the new series borrows elements from King’s iconic novel while building upon the universe established by filmmaker Andy Muschietti in the two It films. It Chapter One focused on young characters confronting terrifying threats, making it appropriate that the prequel follows in those footsteps. However, the first installment of the HBO series shows it set out to raise the stakes, providing more frightening moments than the cinematic versions and creating a dark atmosphere for what's to come.

Story World and Concepts

Located in the early '60s, the series introduces a different group of parents and youngsters residing in a apparently peaceful community hiding a sinister core. This place functions through a brutal, periodic loop—characterized by aggression, prejudice, and paranormal events, as a monstrous presence reappears each 27-year cycle. While It: Welcome to Derry might appear like it leans too heavily to the films initially, what differentiates the streaming show is its parallel storytelling—told from the perspectives of kids and grown-ups simultaneously. The kids stay particularly vulnerable to It's terror, but older characters don't escape facing their individual fears stemming from local discrimination and hidden paranormal elements.

The series debuts on the 31st of October at midnight PT.
