Adult Swim's Top New Show of 2025 Gets a Significant Extension for an Additional Two Seasons.

Last October, Adult Swim welcomed back its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, later that same month, the network launched a completely new animated series with a markedly softer tone. Haha, You Clowns emerged as heartwarming and calm, in the spirit of a animated take of a contemplative talk show. During a period often defined by cynicism, this show's wholesomeness found an audience and helped it become a surprise hit.

A Two-Season Greenlight

On December 18th, Adult Swim revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two more seasons. This gives creator Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to develop the story of the Campbell family. The show focuses on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose defining trait is their profound affection for their single father, with Cappa portraying for all four key characters.

"My deepest thanks go to the audience of the show who took a chance on the show and helped it grow," said Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."

Network Praise

The official statement also included laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and strangely uncanny." He thanked the fans who discovered the show and supported its peculiarly charming style.

"All of you got behind this new show, championed for it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Comforting Counterpoint

Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a comforting antidote" to other adult animated fare. It offers something surprisingly comfy about observing this charming family go about their everyday routines.

At the time, creator Joe Cappa shared his hope to evolve comedy past its long-running cynical streak. He linked this trend to various cultural shifts.

“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we are trapped in,” said Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we need to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”

What Comes Next

With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa may well catalyze that change he described. Or at the very least, the renewal guarantees audiences additional episodes to experience the gentle humor of the unique Campbell clan.

The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. All episodes is ready to watch on HBO Max.
