An esteemed Russian general has been fatally wounded following an explosion in Moscow, according to official statements.
The attack took place on Monday morning when an bomb concealed beneath a vehicle exploded, leading to the death of Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov.
Sarvarov was the head of the armed forces' unit responsible for operational readiness.
Investigators indicated that one theory under investigation points to the potential involvement of Ukrainian intelligence services. At this time, Ukraine has not issued a comment.
Location of the Incident
Officials have been dispatched to the scene, which is reportedly in a southerly district of the capital.
Reports suggest the detonation occurred in a vehicle lot close to a residential building.
Series of Incidents
Since the beginning of the full-scale conflict in Ukraine, a string of Russian military personnel have been attacked within Moscow.
This latest event echoes other serious incidents, including:
- General Yaroslav Moskalik was lost his life in a automobile blast in Moscow earlier this year.
- General Igor Kirillov was killed in late 2024 when a device placed on a scooter was set off from a distance.
While a source from Ukraine previously connected Kirillov's death to Ukraine's security service, such claims are rarely formally acknowledged as a matter of standard practice.
The conflict has been marked by shadowy operations extending into the center of the Russian capital.
The examination into General Sarvarov's death continues to be ongoing.
